Quayle Takes Jabs at Clinton, Gore

Former Vice President Dan Quayle unleashed a biting attack on President Clinton as supporters passed out “Quayle 2000” buttons and urged him to seek the next Republican presidential nomination. “. . . They’re very good at saying ‘This was a mistake, it won’t happen again,” he told a Republican Party meeting. “Whitewater, that was a mistake, it won’t ever happen again. Renting out the Lincoln bedroom, oh, that was a mistake, it won’t ever happen again. Making phone calls illegally from the White House for donations, oh, that was a mistake, it won’t ever happen again. . . . Well I’ll tell you what--Bill Clinton, Al Gore--now that was a mistake and that will never happen again,” Quayle said.
