Splash update--The Splash’s overtime loss to Portland on Wednesday, 7-6, stopped a three-game winning streak. The Splash has scored at least four second-half goals in three of its last four games. The Splash power-play unit (33.3%) has converted four of its last six opportunities. Over the last four games, midfielder Danny Barber (13 goals, eight assists) has five goals and three assists, player/coach Dale Ervine (12 goals, 13 assists) has five goals and four assists, and Bernie Lilavois has eight goals and three assists. Defender Rich Ryerson’s only two goals have come in the last three games. Goalkeeper Ruben Fernandez has a 4.98 goals-against average.
Twisters update--Defender Carlos Zavala, who grew up in Santa Ana, and midfielder Carlos Farias (10 goals, 12 assists), who played for the Zodiac, return to Orange County with the second-place Twisters. Indianapolis beat Washington Friday night. Mirko Castillo (26 goals) is tied for second in goal-scoring and Mariano Bollella is fourth in assists (20). Former Splash defender Paul McDonnell, who was traded to Indiana for Rich Ryerson and Terry Rowe, won’t be in uniform; he was traded to Detroit shortly after arriving in Indianapolis.
