The Anaheim Bullfrogs continued their march toward a Roller Hockey International championship by thrashing the San Jose Rhinos, 9-1, in Game 1 of Western Conference finals in front of 6,509 at the Pond on Friday.
The series concludes Monday in San Jose. If Anaheim loses, it must win a 12-minute mini game, which would immediately follow, to advance to next week’s RHI championship series.
Anaheim goalie David Goverde, a former King, stopped 29 of 30 shots and shut out San Jose in the second half. Goverde gave up only a second-quarter goal by San Jose’s Jason Elders.
The Bullfrogs broke open the game by scoring four goals in four minutes in the fourth quarter.
Glen Metropolit had two goals and two assists, Victor Gervais added a goal and three assists and Darren Perkins scored two goals for Anaheim, which won the RHI title in 1993 and reached the championship series last season.
