High-Tech Viewing
The Promenade 16 theaters in Woodland Hills, just over a year old, claim to be the most luxurious in the Valley, and who could argue? The lavish facility has ultra-cushy high-back seats with armrests that can be lifted so you can cuddle with your date. They’re called Love Seats. The atmosphere is enhanced by a sophisticated sound system.
Big Numbers
By next summer there will be 8,700 new seats and 30 new screens for moviegoers in the northwest Valley. Around Thanksgiving, a 20-screen facility is scheduled to open in Chatsworth where the old Winnetka Drive-In used to be and during the summer a 10-screen theater will open at the Northridge Fashion Center.
Bargain Prices
If you can wait a few weeks to see a first-run movie, three independent theaters in the area offer bargains. The three-screen Plaza in Newhall has the cheapest tickets, $3 for adults. The five-screen Americana in Panorama City offers $6 adult tickets and so does the Five Star in Northridge, formerly the Peppertree. It’s still a deal compared with $7.50 admission at most theaters.
FORECAST: Mostly clear skies and warm temperatures. B6
