$110,000 Reward Urged for Tips in Fatal Shootings

City Councilwoman Ruth Galanter has requested that the council post a $110,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of suspects in the string of fatal shootings in Venice and Mar Vista, a spokeswoman said Thursday.
Galanter called for the unusually large reward in the hope of encouraging residents who may be fearful of coming forward to help police arrest the perpetrators.
Gang-related shootings have claimed 11 lives in the area since February.
The City Council probably will consider Galanter’s request next week, said spokeswoman Niki Tennant.
Tennant said the council typically offers rewards of $25,000 in cases where police urgently need information.
