Felony charges of unlawful sex with a 17-year-old girl were filed by the district attorney’s office Friday against a public defender based in Compton.
Officials said Chance Oberstein, 39, was arrested at his home in Orange County on Wednesday. After his arraignment Friday in Los Angeles Municipal Court, he was ordered held on $1 million bail.
The charges against Oberstein include four counts of unlawful sex with a minor, two counts of sodomy with a minor, two counts of oral copulation with a minor, one count of domestic violence and three counts of making terrorist threats.
Officials said Oberstein met the girl after making eye contact with her as they drove in separate cars down a local street. The alleged offenses were said to have taken place between January 1996 and early this week.
