Conejo Schools Need $97-Million Bond

* Robin Westmiller hasn’t gotten all her facts straight about the proposed $97-million school bond for the Conejo Valley Unified School District.
She states that the district submitted a deferred maintenance plan to the state for $21.6 million, therefore why do we need a $97-million bond? What she doesn’t realize is that a lot of the schools’ needs are not covered by deferred maintenance funds.
Had she done a little research she might have seen where growth, technology, air-conditioning and class-size reduction projects are not on the deferred maintenance list of approved use of funds.
Our schools need to be competitive for the coming century and if the only way to do it is by “maxing out our Visa card” then so be it. The children are the future and they should be able to learn in comfortable classrooms with upgraded facilities.
I do not know what the rest of Westmiller’s opposition statement says, but from what I have seen she should get her facts straight before putting down what she thinks our community needs.
