WASHINGTON — Sen. Strom Thurmond, the 99-year-old Republican from South Carolina, was treated at a funeral Wednesday after he became overheated and dehydrated.
Paramedics treated him at the scene, said his spokeswoman Rebecca Fleming. Thurmond was attending a funeral in Alexandria, Va., for his longtime secretary, Holly Richardson, who died Monday of breast cancer.
“He is home and is resting comfortably. He’s fine,” Fleming said.
Thurmond lives at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.
The temperature reached the upper 80s on Wednesday, unusually hot for early October.
