Authorities on Thursday were searching for a 23-year-old Laguna Hills man accused of running away from an accident in which his baby son was critically injured. Residents in the hilly Casa de Laguna neighborhood where the accident occurred chased the man on scooters, bikes and on foot, but he got away.
The infant is in extremely critical condition at Mission Community Hospital with multiple skull fractures and a bruised lung, investigators said. Police are seeking the driver, who officers identified as John Steidinger.
Police said Steidinger was driving on curvy Santa Vittoria Drive near Camino Jalisco about 9 p.m. Wednesday when he veered into an oncoming lane and collided with another car.
