U2 singer Bono will be honored as the 2003 MusicCares person of the year for his music and humanitarian activities at a dinner Feb. 21 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. The event is held annually in connection with the Grammy Awards, which will be held Feb. 23 at Madison Square Garden.
Proceeds from the dinner go to the MusicCares’ Financial Assistance Program, which provides assistance for members of the music industry in times of financial, medical or personal need. The organization was established by the recording academy in 1989. Past honorees have included Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder.
