Motorist Dies in Head-On Collision

A 44-year-old man died Thursday when his car was struck head-on by another vehicle, authorities said.

Vincente M. Rivera, a nine-year employee at Moorpark Rubbish Disposal in Simi Valley, was killed in the 5:15 a.m. crash in the northbound lanes of Santa Clara Avenue just north of Central Avenue, authorities said.

Rivera of Oxnard was headed to work when his 1977 Ford Mustang was struck by Jorge Luis Mejia’s 1988 Mazda 626. Mejia, 24, was traveling south on Santa Clara when his car drifted into the northbound lane, authorities said.

Mejia of Santa Paula sustained cuts to his face and leg. He was treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard and released, authorities said. The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
