RAFAH, Gaza Strip — An Israeli army raid in the Gaza Strip today killed two Palestinians, including a 3-year-old boy in his bed when troops blew up a house next door, witnesses and medics said.
Israeli security sources said troops were looking for arms-smuggling tunnels used by Palestinian militants in the border city of Rafah and said they blew up two houses where exits of tunnels from Egyptian territory were found.
Soldiers evacuated both houses before the demolition, the security sources said. But Palestinians said the blast brought down walls of nearby homes, killing the boy.
Earlier, Palestinian medics said Ibrahim Alghuti, 26, was killed by Israeli fire at the start of the raid.
