Thomas J. Cahill, 92 -- Longest-serving police chief of San Francisco, he died Saturday at a Napa hospital of congestive heart failure. Cahill was appointed police chief in 1958 by Mayor George Christopher. He served until 1970, and the city’s current Hall of Justice now bears his name.
