MIA: Election news on TV

No campaign coverage could be found on more than half of local TV newscasts around the country, even though election day is barely a month away, a survey released Wednesday has found.
Of 2,454 local news programs in the country’s 50 largest media markets, 1,311 contained nothing at all on campaigns from Sept. 18 to Oct. 4, according to the Lear Center Local News Archive.
Organizers of the project, a collaboration between the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and the University of Wisconsin, say it’s the first such large-scale study of local campaign coverage, so the coverage level can’t be compared with previous years.
