From Times Wire Reports
French troops strengthened positions along Ivory Coast’s front line to keep loyalist soldiers and rebels apart under an agreement to monitor a truce.
France, which has more than 1,000 troops in its former colony, agreed to monitor the cease-fire, signed last week, until a regional force can be sent to help end the month-old conflict.
The fighting has left hundreds dead and displaced more than 200,000. French troops have evacuated hundreds of foreigners since a failed Sept. 19 coup left the rebels holding most of the north of the African country.
