Ventura police who responded to a marital dispute shot a man twice with nonlethal beanbag rounds after he approached officers in an aggressive manner, authorities saidSaturday.
Kirt Tenerio, 46, remained in Ventura County Jail on Saturday on suspicion of domestic violence. Authorities said he punched his wife in the face and resisted arrest.
The incident occurred about 4 p.m. Friday at the couple’s home in the 200 block of El Medio. During the argument, Tenerio allegedly armed himself with a hatchet but his wife was able to flee to a neighbor and then call the police.
Shortly before officers arrived, the couple’s adult son wrestled the weapon away from his father. Tenerio, though, came out of the house “acting aggressively,” authorities said, and challenged the officers.
Both Tenerio and his wife were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
