A man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of breaking into a former Oxnard police chief’s house and stealing his badge, identification card, police scanner and several bags of groceries.
Louis William Rivera, 40, of Oxnard was taken into custody about 2 a.m. after allegedly burglarizing the home of 86-year-old Robert J. Hinostro, the city’s police chief in 1950.
Officer Roger Whitney had gone to Hinostro’s home in the 1200 block of South G Street to investigate a burglary.
About a block from the house, he found Rivera in an alley with the stolen items, Whitney said.
Hinostro was asleep during the burglary and was not injured. His property was returned to him, and Rivera was booked into jail.
