An opposition party lawmaker was stabbed in front of his home in Tokyo and died soon afterward, Japanese broadcasters reported. A police spokeswoman who requested anonymity confirmed the attack on Koki Ishii but could not confirm that he had died.
The attacker remained at large and the motive for the attack was not immediately clear, she said. Ishii, 61, belonged to the Democratic Party of Japan, the nation’s largest opposition bloc. He represented a Tokyo district in the lower house of parliament.
