Man Gets Life Sentence for Murder in Irvine

A La Puente man was sentenced Friday to life in prison for the murder of Yichen “Eric” Liu of El Monte, a Rio Hondo College student whose stabbed and strangled body was found two years ago in the trunk of his burned-out car.
Sonny Joshua Wong, 25, was convicted in August of first-degree murder in Liu’s death Jan. 24, 2000, in Irvine. Liu was the former tutor of Wong’s girlfriend.
