Congress Considers Funding for Missions

From Staff and Wire Reports
Congress is pondering legislation that would devote $10 million in federal money to help rehabilitate California’s 21 missions.
A chunk of the funds would restore crumbling adobe bricks and the weathered tile roof of Sonoma’s 179-year-old Mission San Francisco and San Rafael’s Mission San Rafael Archangel.
Irregular maintenance has left many missions in disrepair. If granted, the federal money would augment state and private cash recently earmarked for restoration projects.
