Arizona State Shuts Down Washington

From Associated Press

Defensive end Terrell Suggs had four sacks and assisted on another as No. 23 Arizona State shut down the nation’s third-best passing offense to beat Washington, 27-16, Saturday night.

The Sun Devils (7-2, 4-0 in Pacific 10) held Washington (4-4, 1-3) without a touchdown until the final minutes.

Suggs has 17 1/2 sacks this season.

One week after he threw for a Pac-10-record 536 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-42 victory at Oregon, Andrew Walter threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns for Arizona State.

Washington quarterback Cody Pickett’s string of 300-yard games ended at seven. He was limited to 210 yards, and all but 70 came in the fourth quarter.

He threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Paul Arnold with 3:47 to play, and he drove the Huskies to their final score, Chris Singleton’s one-yard run with 51 seconds left.

Until then, Washington managed only a 40-yard field goal by John Anderson.

The Huskies have lost three of four games.
