Ways to avoid checking account fees
Here are tips for avoiding new fees on your checking account:
Read your mail. Notice of a new fee will show up first in an enclosure with your bank statement.
Push back. A new fee often is a test of what you will tolerate. Call your bank and ask how to avoid it.
How do you bank? Your bank may offer another account type that fits better with your pattern of transactions.
Shop around. If you can’t avoid fees at your current bank, consider moving. Credit unions, community banks and small regional banks are more likely to offer a better deal.
