The walk from Georgia to Maine on the 2,181-mile Appalachian Trail can be a profound test of determination and physical fitness. Here’s someone who can share some insights on the journey that also had a philanthropic purpose.
Richie Tice will be the guest at a live Web chat Friday (noon EST, 11 a.m. CST, 9 a.m. PST). Tice took along his dog, Stella, and set out to raise money to help Haiti’s earthquake victims, a quest that served as a powerful motivation during the six months it took him to complete the walk.
More than 10,000 people have hiked the whole of the trail, according to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Of course, you don’t have to do it all at once. Many people hike sections a day or week at a time.
Join the chat to find out how to prepare and train for a long hike. Then think about planning your own adventure.
