Intense bursts of rainfall and hail closed the 710 Freeway at the 91 Freeway on Wednesday.
Street flooding was reported in the Compton and Long Beach areas due to the downpours. Several motorists found themselves trapped.
The freeway and connector roads were reopened about 5:45 p.m., but the California Highway Patrol warned “mud and debris from the flood” was still on the roadway. Several vehicles stalled out in the flooded areas had to be towed.
The National Weather Service said Compton saw about two hours of nonstop rain. Some dime-sized hail was also produced.
Hail was also reported in parts of the San Fernando Valley.
Isolated showers are expected to continue across the region through this evening. Officials warned of more minor flooding this evening.
