Kerry, the Democratic nominee, selects Edwards as his running mate.Nov. 3, 2004: Kerry concedes defeat to President Bush. Edwards’ wife, Elizabeth, is diagnosed with breast cancer.2006: Edwards meets filmmaker Rielle Hunter in New York.
