Costa Mesa resident Farrell Hinkle was one of 18 golfers to qualify
for the California Golf Association’s senior amateur championship
later this month.
Hinkle, a Mesa Verde Country Club member, shot a 2-over-par 74 to
tie for 11th place with nine of the 91 total golfers on the Southern
California Golf Association Golf Course in Murrieta May 27.
Newport Beach resident David Cornett carded a 3-over 75 and is one
of four alternates for the championship, June 23-25 at the Poppy
Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
* June 19 is the entry closing date for the ninth annual
California women’s state championship, July 19-21, at the Pala Mesa
Resort in Fallbrook.
The tournament is open to 100 female golfers of any age who are
California residents and have a United States Golf Association
handicap index at or less than 10.4.
The top four players after 54 holes of stroke play will represent
the state in the USGA women’s state team championship.
