School to name new center
UC Irvine will celebrate the naming and future home of the Donald
Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences today. A campus
community reception will take place at 2 p.m. near the intersection
of East Peltason and Los Trancos, on the University Club lawn in the
direction of Aldrich Park. For a campus map, go to

Bren Hall, to be the school’s main building, will be a six-story
research and classroom facility and is scheduled for completion in
2006.

Once-burned rug store to open again
A Corona del Mar rug store, which closed after a fire in January,
is set to reopen on Monday.
Amir Rug Gallery at 3127 E. Coast Highway will also have a Grand
Reopening sale in June and July.
Firefighters saved more than $1 million in inventory during the
Jan. 25 fire. A stack of 20 to 30 rugs had caught on fire.
Red Cross awards emergency members
MGE UPS Systems and Coast Community College District, both in
Costa Mesa, received awards from the American Red Cross for their
superior emergency preparedness plans.
MGE UPS Systems was recognized for its ongoing training program
for both front-line employees and Business Emergency Response Team
members. The company requires all employees to participate in monthly
safety training sessions.
Coast Community College District received the award for its
proactive approach to disaster preparedness. Red Cross officials said
that the college district reviews and updates its emergency response
plans.
The organizations received their awards during the Orange County
Red Cross 20th annual Disaster Preparedness Academy on June 2 at Cal
State Fullerton.
Reagan memorial register available
Residents of Newport-Mesa are invited to sign a memorial register
for Ronald Reagan, which will be forwarded to the late president’s
family.
Pacific View Memorial Park have created the service to allow area
residents to share their condolences with the Reagan family. Those
who are interested can visit the park between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at
3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar, and sign the registry.
The condolences registered at the Corona del Mar site will be
added to a long list compiled by Dignity Memorial Service Network of
North America, which will send the messages to the Reagans.
