Man critically hurt after crash
A Huntington Beach motorcyclist was critically injured after he
crashed into two stopped cars on Monday, police said.
The collision happened at about 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of
3rd Street and Park Avenue in Laguna Beach. Erich Mueller, 31,
suffered multiple injuries after he crashed his 2001 Kawasaki Ninja into a 2000 Volkswagen Cabriolet, taking out one of the car’s
mirrors. His body then hit a 1998 Honda Civic, which was stopped in
front of the Cabriolet, before he hit the pavement, police said.
Mueller suffered multiple leg and rib fractures, a broken left
shoulder and bleeding on the brain, Laguna Beach Sgt. Jason Kravetz
said. He was airlifted to Mission Hospital, where he was listed in
critical condition.
The intersection is at the top of a very steep hill, and police
believe his motorcycle sped up the hill too quickly before the crash.
Police hand out 10,000 gun locks The Police Department has distributed 10,000 gun locks that were
donated to the department by Project Child Safe, a federally-funded
group that seeks to prevent accidental shootings.
Cities across the country received the cable-style locks that can
be strung through any conventional handgun, rifle or shotgun to
prevent firing. The locks were available for free, and people were
able to pick them up at the police station, the last lock was given
away at the beginning of the month.
