Councilman opposes funding move
Councilman Wayne Baglin voted against applying for funds from the
Orange County Transportation Authority because a big chunk of the
funds would be used for the proposed maintenance yard relocation.
The application is for $2,085,000 to fund operating costs of the
city’s municipal transit system, vehicle replacement and capital
improvements in the proposed yard. Of the total, $900,000 would be
used for the transportation component in the relocated yard.
“I don’t agree with moving the corporate yard, so I can’t vote for
this,” said Baglin.
Councilman Steve Dicterow said the corporation yard was going to
be moved regardless of Baglin’s preference.
“I would think you would want it to cost the city less,” Dicterow
said.
Baglin said that he would scuttle funding for the move whenever
possible.
The council voted 3 to 1 to authorize City Manager Ken Frank to
apply for the local transportation funds with OCTA. Councilwoman Toni
Iseman, who also is opposed to the relocation of the corporate yard,
was absent from the meeting.

Quest for burn survivors rescheduled
The Firefighters Quest For Burn Survivors will be making its way
through Laguna Beach between 4 and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The quest will work its way throughout Southern California to
provide awareness to burn injuries and to promote burn education and
burn prevention. This caravan has resumed after being postponed a
couple of weeks ago due to the death of President Ronald Reagan.
The caravan will consist of emergency vehicles that will travel
from Newport Beach, along Coast Highway, and up Forest Avenue for a
brief stop at Fire Station No. 1 for pictures and public information.
The community is encouraged to watch and welcome the caravan of Fire
and Police Apparatus and will have the opportunity to talk with some
burn survivors.
The Firefighters Quest For Burn Survivors is an organization that
was created following the 1996 Malibu firestorm in which several
local Southern California firefighters were critically injured by
flames.
