U-10 boys continue hot start

The Laguna Beach Soccer Club boys’ under-10 team continued its hot
start to the 2004 season by shutting out Tustin Premier, 5-0.
The win keeps Laguna in first-place in the league standings and
its defense has yet to yield a goal this season.
Matthew Finkelstein, Griffin Fair, Jovani Reyes and Joseph
Rousseau scored goals and keeper Alec Williams and the defense turned
in another strong performance in getting the shutout.
In under-14 boys’ play, Laguna bounced back from a disappointing
defeat to the Irvine Lasers to give its best performance of the year
in a scoreless tie match against West Coast United in Mission Viejo.
Laguna held advantage in possession during the first half and
created better scoring chances than West Coast United. In fact,
Laguna got an apparent goal when Caine Fair landed the ball in the
net, but he was ruled off side, and the goal was disallowed.
Laguna keeper Noah Barker pulled off several great saves to keep
the score 0-0.
Graham Harris celebrated his birthday with a big performance at
the heart of the Laguna defense, and Noah Michelon, Yorel Porcile and
Jack Monroe combined to make it very difficult for West Coast to
create scoring opportunities.
Laguna continued to create scoring chances with midfielders Tommy
Hopper and Michael Lewis providing some outstanding wide play, which
set up Bryce Healey and Alex Germano with great shots on goal.
Max Radach and Jasper Bower hustled and pressured West Coast
United’s defense.
In under-11 boys’ play, Laguna played MK Soccer Club of Newport
Beach tough in a 3-1 loss at Sage Hill High.
Laguna, a team plagued by injury, played the match with 10 players
suited up.
Brian Vail had three shots on goal and Christian Ochoa scored the
only Laguna goal after Vail had been fouled in the penalty box.
Ochoa’s boot brought Laguna into a 1-1 tie, but a depleted Laguna
squad fatigued toward the end of the match, and Newport’s Caleb
Candelaria scored consecutive goals to make it 3-1.
Shots by Ochoa and Vail in the closing minutes just missed the
goal.
