High School Roundup: Newport Harbor football advances to second straight semifinal

AJ Guitron-Moore threw for five touchdowns, as the Newport Harbor High School football team defeated host Santa Barbara 49-14 on Friday in a CIF Southern Section Division 6 quarterfinal game.
Newport Harbor (5-7) will be at home against Compton Dominguez (10-2) in the semifinals. Dominguez topped Santa Ana 40-34 on Friday.
The Sailors return to the semifinal round, a stage they reached in the Division 9 playoffs in 2019. The section did not hold playoffs during the coronavirus pandemic-abbreviated season in the spring.
Claremont 38, Laguna Beach 7: The top-seeded Breakers were upset on the road in the quarterfinals of the Division 9 playoffs on Friday night.
Laguna Beach (10-2) was outscored 24-0 in the first half. Will Bingham threw a touchdown pass to Luke Degner for the Breakers.
Claremont (7-5) will play at St. Margaret’s (8-4) in the semifinals.
