Highlights: Cowboys who also happen to be poets and musicians perform their rough-and-tumble art. The theme for this year’s annual event is “Cowboys in Blue.”

Highlights: Las Vegas’ new 47-story hotel hosts an anti-Valentine’s Day party for singles; chef Kerry Simon whips up an inspired menu as attendees eat, drink and tatter a heart-shaped piñata. Prizes include gift cards to use throughout the property.

When, where: Feb. 19-21, Calico Ghost Town Regional Park

Highlights: Hundreds of costumed “soldiers” reenact the Battle of Ft. Sumter (which took place near Charleston, S.C.) twice daily to commemorate the Civil War’s 150th anniversary.

Cost: $10; $5 for ages 6-15; free for ages 5 and younger; those with a reserved park campsite get six free admissions
