Santa Fe: Winter Fiesta to offer sports, art, food and more
- Share via
With its inaugural Winter Fiesta, from Feb. 18 through 27, Santa Fe hopes for a seasonal counterweight of cultural, musical and food happenings to its acclaimed summer events calendar.
But it is winter after all, so snowy physical pursuits kick off the 10-day festival. There will be scavenger hunts on snowshoes in the mountains above town and cross-country skiing under the moonlight at the Valles Caldera National Preserve. Ski Santa Fe, the local ski area, will discount lift tickets for festival-goers.
In town, the art galleries and museums around the Plaza, Canyon Road and the Railyard district will teem with demonstrations, receptions and openings. Tours to Chimayó and the Puye Cliff Dwellings will offer insights into Northern New Mexico’s Hispanic and Native American heritage.
Winter Fiesta will conclude with a fashion show and auction, an “Edible Art Tour,” a “Feast or Famine” party and other events to benefit ARTfeast, an annual fundraiser for art programs in the Santa Fe Public Schools.
A lanyard ($20) is the key to savings for many events, venues, classes and programs. Several downtown hotels offer “buy one night, get one free” deals
