Free in-flight Facebook access for February, courtesy of Gogo

February is Facebook month -- if you happen to be flying on certain airlines.

Gogo Inflight Internet, which provides in-flight wireless Internet connections, is offering free access to Facebook in February on Gogo-equipped aircraft flown by AirTran Airways, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America.

Here’s how it works: Once the plane reaches 10,000 feet, passengers can connect to the Gogo wireless network by opening a browser and clicking on a banner that will appear on the screen. You’ll get access only to Facebook. It you want to do more browsing, you’ll have to pay Gogo’s usual rates, which, depending on the device used and the length of the flight, range from $4.95 to $12.95, plus tax.

The February promotion is similar to one last year that partnered with Google to offer free in-flight WiFi access on selected airlines during the holidays. This time, Gogo teams up with Ford Motor Co. as an ad partner.
