Nantucket: Snag rooms at White Elephant for $195 a night

The White Elephant on Nantucket Island in Massachusetts has been described by Travel + Leisure as the island’s “largest, plushest resort -- which occupies a prime spot at the northern edge of Nantucket Harbor.” Now rooms at the 53-unit inn are on sale starting at $195 a night, with some nice hotel credits too.
The deal: The hotel’s Hot Dates, Cool Rates offers a considerable discount on rooms in the spring and fall. The deal comes with dinner credits at the hotel’s Brant Point Grill ($25 credit for a $100 meal; $50 credit for a $150 meal) and two $25 credits for the hotel’s spa.
When: The offer is good on selected dates in April, May, October and November. But you must reserve by Feb. 18.
Tested: I went to the White Elephant’s website and found the lowest rate of $195 plus tax available for a guest room without a deck from May 8 to 11. Total cost for three nights with tax was $653. That’s quite a savings, considering that in July, the island’s high season, rooms start at $525 a night.
Don’t forget to figure the cost of a boat or flight to the island when making your travel plans. And check out Nantucket Island Resorts to find early discounts at other island hotels.
