MGM Resorts expands app to Android

It’s getting easier to arrange trips to Las Vegas using smart phones. MGM Resorts, which owns 10 properties along the Strip, has expanded its apps service to include devices that use Google’s Android system. Previously, they were available for iPhone users only.
In March, the company plans to roll out apps for Blackberry’s OS too.
The apps allow potential visitors to view and book guest rooms, order food from room service and even watch video previews of current shows. If last-minute tickets become available for a sold-out production, they can be purchased using a smart phone.
Since rolling out its first apps – one for each resort – last year, MGM has attracted more than 200,000 downloads by iPhone users, according to Scott Voeller, vice president of brand strategy and advertising.
Las Vegas’ other major player – Caesars Entertainment, with nine resorts – has a multi-platform app for its flagship property, Caesars Palace.
